Du 15 au 22 Avril, 14 élèves de seconde ont séjourné à Albuquerque au Nouveau-Mexique dans le cadre d’un séjour linguistique en espagnol. A l’initiative de Françoise Bougaeff, professeur d’espagnol, accompagnée de Florian Soletti, ce projet a vu le jour grâce à la collaboration de l’institut Cervantes d’Albuquerque qui nous a accueillis et orientés tout au long du séjour. Le but était de préparer l’examen du DELE (Diplôme d’ Espagnol comme Langue Etrangère) qui se déroulera au LFT le 25 Mai prochain pour toutes les classes de la troisième à la Terminale.
Pendant ce voyage, en plus de cours de préparation au DELE, les élèves sont allés en excursion dans les divers lieux historiques et touristiques du Nouveau-Mexique, et tout ceci en espagnol s’il vous plait! Au total, tous ces élèves ont passé plus de 48h d’immersion en espagnol au cours de cette semaine.
De Bandelier National Park à Taos Pueblo en passant par Santa Fé et Albuquerque, nos élèves ont ainsi pu apprécier la diversité de populations et de cultures dont regorge cet état américain, le seul officiellement bilingue espagnol/anglais. A travers un atelier de
cuisine, des excursions, les repas typiques, les élèves ont découvert l’importance des influences tant espagnole que mexicaine. Le
dépaysement fut si grand que nous avions du mal à nous imaginer que nous étions aux Etats-Unis!
A noter que dans le cadre du développement de l’audiovisuel au LFT, les élèves de 2nde vont présenter d’ici la fin de l’année un projet multimédia dans d’autres classes sur leur expérience vécu au Nouveau-Mexique.
Un grand merci à Carlos Soler, directeur de l’institut Cervantes d’Albuquerque pour son aide et sa présence sur place, à l’APE pour l’aide financière et son soutien dans notre projet et ainsi qu’à toute l’équipe du LFT qui a contribué à financer ce voyage grâce aux levées de fonds. Un grand merci également aux parents des élèves de la classe de seconde qui ont dit oui au projet et nous ont fourni les repas du mercredi de Novembre à Avril!

From April 15th to 22d, 14 tengraders went to Albuquerque, New Mexico, on a Spanish school trip. On Mrs Bougaeff’s initiative, Spanish teacher, this project accompanied by Florian Soletti, was made possible thanks to the Cervantes institute of Albuquerque’s collaboration, which welcomed and guided us through our stay. The goal was to prepare the students to the DELE (Diploma of Spanish as a Second Language) exam that will take place at the LFT on May 25th for all grades 9 to 12.
During that trip, on top of a thorough preparation to the DELE, the students had a chance to go on day trips to different New Mexican touristic and historical sites. And all that in Spanish please! More than 48 hours of immersion in Spanish in total over the course of that week.
From Bandelier National Park to Taos Pueblo, from Santa Fe to Old Town Albuquerque, our students had the opportunity to appreciate the diversity of populations and cultures of the officially bilingual American state. Through a cooking class, day trips, some typical New Mexican restaurants, the students were able to discover the importance of both the Spanish and Mexican influences. The change of scenery was so great, it was sometimes hard to believe we were in the United
States.
For your interest, under our multimedia development program, the Grade 10 students will present a multimedia project to other classes about their New Mexican experience by the end of the school year.
We would especially like to convey our gratitude to Carlos Soler, the head of the Cervantes institute of Albuquerque, for his constant support through the project and devoted presence through the trip. To the LFT staff who ate to contribute to the fundraising of that trip. To the parents of the students for saying yes to the project and cooking for the staff every Wednesday from November to April!

Personal, team and athletic achievements
19 members of the LFT family, including 9 students, participated in this year’s CN Tower climb and accomplished an amazing performance. Shahen Yashpal had the best time with an outstanding 13’02”.

The Frog Prince, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, titles familiar to both young and old, appear in the Brothers Grimm fairy tale collection Children’s and Household Tales, first published in 1812. Second to the Luther Bible, this fairy tale collection, known today as Grimm’s Fairy Tales, is the most well-known and widely circulated work in German cultural history, having been translated into 160 languages. To celebrate the bi-centenary of its publication, the Goethe-Institut has mounted a special exhibition, The World of Fairy Tales. After its first showing at the European School in Munich in December of 2011, it has started to go on a world tour with stops in Europe, Northern Africa, North and South America.
In order to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Goethe-Institut Canada, the travelling exhibition was invited to Toronto. During the only Canadian stop at the German Consulate Toronto, our German students in 3ème, 2nde and 1ère were able to enter and identify with the wonderful world of fairy tales. By highlighting the similarities with modern popular culture, the exhibition explored seven themes found in German fairy tales. Our students wandered into an enchanted forest, found interactive treasure chests and learned about beautiful princesses, wise women, witches, wizards, heroes, villains, evil stepmothers, and other fairy tale characters.

Each fall, more than 70,000 students from over 700 different schools in the USA and Canada take part in the Award of Excellence contest organized by the Goethe-Institut New York and sponsored by the German Embassy in Washington. The goal of the contest is to create and promote interest in learning German among North American students. Since its inception in 1991, this contest has grown in popularity, with more than 1.5 million students now participating.
All of our German students from 3ème to Terminale submitted wonderful answers that truly impressed the judging panel. In order to reward this achievement, the Lycée Français de Toronto has been named a winner in this year’s contest (http://www.goethe.de/ins/us/ney/lhr/aoe/enindex.htm) focusing on German music bands and their road to success. Our participation in this contest was a great learning experience for all students involved, and that experience will continue when Benjamin Attal travels to Germany this summer. He will receive a prestigious scholarship for an intensive language course at the foothill of the Bavarian Alps.
I am very happy that Benjamin gets the opportunity to experience first-hand the culture of German-speaking countries by visiting beautiful fairy tale castles, exploring exciting cities like Munich and Salzburg, and hiking in the fantastic alpine scenery while meeting other students from all over the world. Congratulations, Ben!

Le 19 avril dernier, la réalisatrice Annabel Loyola est venue nous présenter son documentaire intitulé « La folle entreprise », qui retrace une partie de la vie de Jeanne Mance, co-fondatrice de la ville de Montréal. Ce film contribue à rétablir le rôle capital de cette grande dame du XVIIe siècle, malheureusement oublié jusqu’à récemment.
Avec beaucoup de passion, Annabel nous a expliqué le déroulement de son documentaire et la façon dont il avait été filmé. Sa réalisation a pris quatre longues années. Annabel a dû voyager, aller consulter des manuscrits, interroger des spécialistes et retourner sur des lieux historiques en suivant les traces de Jeanne Mance.
Annabel nous a révélé que cette quête lui avait permis de mieux de connaître sa ville natale (Langres) qui est aussi celle de la bienfaitrice de Montréal.
Nous avons trouvé que l’exposé d’Annabel était bien documenté, bien organisé et attrayant. Nous remercions la cinéaste de nous avoir inclus dans son aventure.

Class of 4eA : Our thoughts on ‘A Mad Venture: In the Footsteps of Jeanne Mance’ by Annabel Loyola

The movie:
We thought that the movie was informative of not only about Jeanne Mance herself, but also about the history of Montreal and Canada as a whole in that period and today. It is an interesting documentary, seeming to go backwards in time: it starts off with how Jeanne Mance came to Canada, why and what she did, the founding of Montreal, and then goes to the beginning of her life, in Langres, France, with some details about her family. The whole movie is interspersed with interviews and recordings of experts sharing their views on Jeanne Mance. Throughout the film, we see glimpses of the superimposition of Annabel Loyola’s life and that of Jeanne Mance: they come from the same town, and both ended up in Montreal. It also follows Annabel while she finds out more about the two places where she lives or lived, and more about herself.
The presentation by Annabel Loyola:
Annabel Loyola’s presentation was interesting because she not only explained how and why she made the movie, but also how to make a documentary in general. We also learned the details of the filming and soundtrack technique that went into the making of her film. During the presentation, Annabel also slipped in a few details about how Jeanne Mance is regarded today: the way she faded in and out of history, and how she was recognized by some (but not by others) as a founder of Montreal (alongside Maisonneuve).

Le jeudi 23 février, les enfants de Petite Section ont participé à une chasse aux trésors dans la galerie des Animaux, au ROM (Musée Royal de l’Ontario). Nos petits aventuriers avaient une mission importante : Trouver l’ours polaire, le flamand rose, le renard, le poisson-clown, et bien d’autres animaux qui marchent sur terre, qui volent dans les airs ou qui nagent dans l’eau avec leurs nageoires. Chaque équipe a gagné! Bravo!
Après un bon repas, les enfants ont pu se détendre en jouant aux archéologues dans le sable et en se déguisant. Ils sont rentrés au Lycée la tête pleine d’animaux extraordinaires …
On Thursday 23rd of February, children of Kindergarten went to have a treasure hunt in the animal galery, at the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum). Our little adventurers had an important mission: To find hte polar bear, the flamingo, the fox, the clown-fish and a lot of other Earth walking animals, flying animals or swimming ones in water win their fin. Each team has won! Congratulations to them!
After a good meal, the kids rested a little by playing archeologists with the sand and by wearing costumes. They came back to the Lycée Français of Toronto with so much extraordinary pictures in their mind …

Nous fêtons aujourd’hui le 100ème jour d’école de l’année ! Les classes de Grande Section les ont comptés depuis le tout premier. Ils se sont déguisés en personnes centenaires et ont défilé dans les classes du primaire.
Today is the 100th day of school ! The GS classes have been counting since the first day of school. They celebrated by dressing up like they were 100 years old.
