9th Arts and Literary Contest for the Youth

“L’après-midi du samedi 26 avril fut vraiment formidable…Les deux équipes du Lycée ont remporté le 1er prix au Concours de Poésie Chinoise (9th Arts and Literary Contest for the Youth). Les performances réalisées par les deux équipes étaient vivantes, synchronisées et très expressives. C’est pourquoi, au final, les 5 juges leur ont décerné le titre de champions!

Je suis vraiment fière de vous tous et suis très reconnaissante aux parents pour leur soutien; ils ont parcouru une grande distance pour amener leurs enfants et leurs encouragements les ont beaucoup aidés.

Un grand merci aussi à Corentine, Corinne & Dominique pour avoir géré les T-shirts du LfT; ainsi qu’à M.Idrissi et M.Bouaziz pour nous avoir permis de répéter sur leurs temps d’enseignement; ainsi qu’à Virginie et Louise Sieg, à Amy Low et à M.Madore, pour nous avoir donné des photos, des vidéos ou pour avoir écrit de brefs articles sur le sujet.”

“It was an amazing Saturday afternoon on April 26th …Both of Lycée teams won the 1st award in the “9th Arts and Literary Contest for the Youth”. The performances, carried by both teams, were lively, synchronized and expressive. Therefore all five adjudicators crowned them champions!

I am truly proud of you and I also truly appreciate your parents’ support as they drove such a long way and gave great encouragement to the kids.

La journée vue par une mère d’élève/ The event as seen by a student’s parent:

“Melody Chang’s Mandarin students at LFT, from both the extra-curriculum and curriculum programs, did it again, at the annual Chinese Arts and Literacy Contest for Youth in its 9th year!
Both groups (CE1/CM1 and CM2/6e/5e) won first place in the group poem recital category. Three of the students who competed in the individual poem recital won second place and one won third place in their own grade categories. This annual contest, had approximately 2,500 participants from about 150 schools from around Toronto, and the Greater Toronto Areas. The contest started 9 years ago, by individuals who are interested in preserving and promoting the Chinese Cultural Heritage, amongst young Canadians.
The success of this Contest has secured funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Melody with her special teaching method, has been incredibly successful in preparing her students, who are largely from non Mandarin-speaking homes. Congratulations Melody & 2008 Winners!”

La journée vue par une élève / The day as seen by a student…

« Le samedi 19 Avril, la classe de mandarin s’est retrouvée pour la récitation de poésie. Nous avons regardé les autres groupes (on était contre 9 équipes), ils étaient vraiment impressionnants! Quand est venu notre tour de réciter la poésie, j’étais un peu nerveuse… j’avais peur d’oublier un mot ou un geste. Quand on a gagné on était très contents et on est revenus sur la scène pour que les parents nous prennent en photo, c’était très sympa!»

“Last Saturday April 19, the Mandarin students went to Chinese contest. We first looked at the other groups (we were vs 9 teams), they were very good! When it was our turn I was a little bit nervous… I was scared about forgetting a word or an action. When we won, we were very happy and we went back on stage to have some pictures taken. It was very funny!

Proficiency Test for children

Le Lycée Français de Toronto a été la seule école d’Amérique du nord à participer à ce concours organisé pour les enfants de 6 à 13 ans par le National Taiwan Normal University, Mandarin Training Centre, en décembre 2007.

25 élèves de primaire et de collège suivent un cours de 90 minutes par semaine avec Melody CHANG et obtiennent des résultats surprenants…

The Lycée Français de Toronto was the only school in North America to take part in a proficiency test for children 6 to 13 years old, organized by the National Taiwan Normal University, Mandarin Training Centre, last December 2007.
